“Authorities coordinate joint strategy to regularize motorcycle taxi stops”

Santo Domingo. – The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, presided over a working meeting with the objective of designing a strategy to monitor the regularization of motorcycle taxi stands, as part of efforts to strengthen citizen security and order in urban transport.

During the meeting, in which the director of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), General Pascual Cruz Méndez, and representatives of the Greater Santo Domingo city halls participated, Raful highlighted the importance of coordination between all institutions with jurisdiction in the matter in order to guarantee effective results in the process of regulating and controlling motorcycle taxi stands.

The official explained that the initiative contemplates the participation of local governments, responsible for the control of stops, the issuance of land use permits, and the registration of authorized spaces to operate.

Likewise, it was agreed to create and number identification vests for motorcycle taxi drivers, differentiated by colors according to each province, with the purpose of facilitating supervision and control by the authorities.

As part of the established measures, it was determined that members of the taxi stands must have a valid driver’s license and a certificate of no criminal record. In addition, a classification of spaces will be carried out to define technical criteria regarding the locations where new stands may or may not be established, guaranteeing better organization of traffic and greater safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

The authorities agreed that permanent coordination between state institutions and city councils will allow for progress towards a safer, more organized, and transparent transport system, contributing to crime prevention, the strengthening of public order, and the protection of the citizenry.
