Santo Domingo.- The psychiatrist and writer Segundo Imbert Brugal presented his book “The Journey of a Shrink (From Madrid to Florida)” during an event held in the Juan Lockward bar hall of the National Theater.
The activity was presented by psychologist Rosa Mariana Brea-Franco, while the critical commentary was provided by psychiatrist and writer José Miguel Gómez.
The work collects the memoirs of Imbert Brugal’s training and professional practice, from his studies to his retirement, recounting the challenges, lessons, and experiences lived throughout his career in different countries. Through personal anecdotes, the author reflects on theoretical and practical aspects of psychiatry, as well as the importance of solid training and the ethical practice of the profession.
The book is available for sale at Cuesta bookstore.

Born in Puerto Plata, Segundo Imbert Brugal began his medical studies at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and subsequently continued his training in Madrid, where he obtained his medical degree at the Complutense University.
He completed internships at the Ricardo Limardo Hospital in Puerto Plata and at the Presbyterian Hospital in Puerto Rico. Later, he specialized in general psychiatry at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and obtained a subspecialty in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Throughout his career, he practiced psychiatry in Montreal, Santo Domingo, and the United States. He also taught at UNPHU, INTEC, and Florida State University, in addition to being part of the founding group of the Dominican Republic Academy of Medicine.

Imbert Brugal is also a columnist and author of short story books. He currently maintains the “Catharsis” column in the digital newspaper Acento and works as a clinical psychiatrist in Orlando, Florida.
