Santo Domingo.- Brugal 1888 presents an artistic collaboration with Fernando and Mónica Varela, father and daughter, recognized for their trajectory in the visual arts and design, for the development of an exclusive collection of hand-intervened bottles that pays homage to Dominican identity, craftsmanship and the country’s cultural legacy.
Collaboration gives rise to a limited series of unique bottles, created through an artisanal process that combines Brugal’s rum-making expertise, perfected over more than 135 years, with the artistic language of Los Varela, characterized by the use of native materials, hand-worked metals, and Dominican stones such as larimar and amber.
Inspired by the natural richness of the Dominican Republic, its mangroves, sugarcane fields, springs, and Caribbean landscapes, the pieces bring rum and art into dialogue as cultural expressions that arise from respect for time, the land, and tradition.
The collection is structured into three conceptual series: Generational Legacy, which addresses the continuity and evolution of those who build with a long-term vision; Mastery, dedicated to technical knowledge, precision, and the balance between nature and technique; and Identity, which celebrates Brugal as a country brand and cultural symbol of the Dominican Republic to the world.
Each piece is the result of a collective process involving multiple hands, including the work of Dominican artisans, which reinforces the cultural and collaborative character of the project. As a central part of this initiative, for each bottle purchased, with a value of US$2,888, all of the proceeds will be allocated to the George Arzeno Brugal Educational Center and the TECHO Dominican Republic program, supporting education and housing projects, and integrating Dominican mastery and craftsmanship into a cause of social impact.
With this collaboration, Brugal 1888 continues its path as a patron of the arts following previous projects with international artists such as César Menchaca, Alexander Mijares and Orsoni Venezia, betting this time on talent with deep Dominican roots and consolidating its role as a cultural ambassador of the country in international scenarios. This alliance between Brugal 1888 and Los Varela is presented as a celebration of the origin, legacy and Dominican identity, where art and rum converge as expressions of the same
culture.
