The American singer and actor Billy Porter has announced that, after having spent four months “very seriously ill” as a result of urosepsis, he is now on the road to a “complete recovery.”
The 56-year-old artist told his followers via Instagram that, although he is still not completely well, his situation has improved.
“Some of you may know, or maybe not, that this fall I was very sick in the hospital with urosepsis. It has not been easy. It has been four very, very difficult months. And I want you all to know that I am on the road to a full recovery. I haven’t arrived yet, but I’m on that path,” he says in his message, published in the last few hours.

Urinary sepsis or urosepsis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that originates when a urinary tract infection spreads to the bloodstream. It originates in the urinary system and, if not treated in time, can lead to septic shock, organ failure, and even death.
Porter’s diagnosis was announced last September. The producers of the Broadway musical ‘Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club’, which he starred in, then announced that they had been forced to remove that production from the billboard ahead of schedule due to his illness.
The actor and singer now thanked his followers for caring about him.
“I want to thank you all for your prayers, your affection, and for sending me good vibes. I have felt each and every one of them. I know that I am alive today thanks to my fans,” he concluded.
Porter, an icon of the LGBT community, won an Emmy in 2019 for Best Actor in a Drama Series for ‘Pose’, and has, among others, a Tony Award for Best Musical Theater Album for ‘Kinky Boots’, and in 2022 was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
