Beijing.- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi requested this Sunday that “third parties” not interfere in their relations with Latin America and assured that “Latin American countries must choose their own path.”
Wang’s statements come after US President Donald Trump held a summit in Miami with right-wing leaders from the region that sought to consolidate Washington’s leadership in Latin America and counter the influence of the Asian country.
The statements were made during the annual press conference of the Foreign Minister held within the framework of the session of the National People’s Congress (NPC, Legislative), the main political event in the country each year.
The chancellor defended that “cooperation between China and Latin America is based on mutual assistance and support among the countries of the Global South” and stressed that “the rapid development of relations between China and Latin America is key to China’s constant respect for the Latin American people.”
Wang assured that his country “never participates in geopolitical calculations nor interferes in the internal affairs of other countries” nor “asks anyone to take sides”.
“Cooperation between China and Latin America is not directed against third parties nor should it be subject to the interference of third parties,” added the minister, who also indicated that he has “full confidence in the future of relations between China and Latin America.”
