Latin American presidents congratulate re-elected Lula and commit to strengthening relations with Brazil

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, re-elected for a fourth term in Brazil, received congratulations from several Latin American leaders, who highlighted the electoral result and reaffirmed their interest in maintaining and strengthening diplomatic, commercial, and cooperation relations with the largest economy in the region.
The messages began to spread after the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) confirmed Lula’s victory over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in the presidential runoff, held this Sunday, October 25. The president-elect obtained 51.76% of the valid votes, compared to 48.24% for his opponent, according to the results released during the vote count.
The first reactions came from Mexico, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Panama. Their presidents agreed on recognizing the electoral result, although with different political and diplomatic approaches.
Lula re-elected: first congratulations
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, was one of the first international figures to speak out. Through her account on the social network X, she celebrated the Brazilian leader’s victory and highlighted the citizen participation in the elections.
For his part, the Uruguayan president, Yamandú Orsi, reported that he held a conversation with Lula after the election result was known to congratulate him personally.
Orsi described the process as an expression of Brazilian democracy and highlighted his friendly relationship with the re-elected president.
Lula re-elected: regional cooperation
The President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, highlighted the importance of continuing to work with Brazil on initiatives related to economic integration and shared development.
Peña noted that both countries maintain common interests and expressed his willingness to promote projects that contribute to the well-being of their respective populations.
From Bolivia, President Rodrigo Paz also congratulated Lula and recalled the historical and geographical ties that unite both South American nations.
Meanwhile, the Panamanian president, José Raúl Mulino, welcomed the electoral result and reiterated his willingness to maintain a bilateral cooperation agenda with the Brazilian government.
Cuba also congratulates Lula
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel joined in the congratulations and highlighted the political significance of the reelection for relations between Brazil and Cuba.
The Cuban government linked the result to the continuity of the policies of sovereignty, social justice, and regional cooperation promoted by Lula.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric also reacted, publicly expressing his satisfaction with the victory and acknowledging the political trajectory of the Workers’ Party (PT) leader.
The congratulations to the Brazilian president reflect the interest of governments and leaders of different political orientations in maintaining their ties with Brazil, given its economic and diplomatic influence in Latin America.
Lula re-elected: diplomatic challenges
The Brazilian leader’s victory comes in a Latin American scenario marked by political differences between governments and shared challenges in terms of trade, security, migration, and economic integration.
During his new term, corresponding to the 2027-2030 period, Lula will have to maintain relations with left-wing, centrist, and right-wing administrations, some of which have expressed their interest in expanding trade ties and cooperation mechanisms.
The recognition of his victory by leaders of different political currents highlights the relevance of Brazil in the regional landscape and the importance that its foreign policy will have over the next four years.
