Cali.- In his presidential inauguration speech, Abelardo de la Espriella paid tribute to the assassinated politician Miguel Uribe Turbay and categorically rejected the use of weapons as a means to achieve power.
The head of state was emphatic in pointing out that violence is not a solution for the country.
“Violence has never solved a single problem in Colombia, it has only multiplied our tragedies. No ideological or political claim can justify a Colombian raising arms against another Colombian,” he asserted.
In his speech, the president also paid tribute to the memory of Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a victim of violence during the last electoral campaign:
“We suffered through it again during the campaign that led to victory, marked by the sacrifice of a martyr. I pay a heartfelt tribute to the memory of Miguel Uribe Turbay”.
