Bogotá.- The president-elect of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, announced this Tuesday the appointment of economist and conservative leader Miguel Gómez Martínez as Minister of Finance, a position he will assume on August 7 with the start of the new government.
n” “nIn a statement, the president-elect’s team highlighted Gómez Martínez’s career as an “economist, former deputy comptroller general of the Republic, former president of the state foreign trade bank Bancóldex” and of Fasecolda, the guild that brings together insurers in Colombia.
n” “nHe also pointed out that Gómez Martínez will have the mission to “restore institutional trust,” defend public resources, and “order public finances with transparency, discipline, and responsibility.”
n” “nThe statement added that the new minister represents the so-called “nevers,” a concept used by De la Espriella during the campaign to group people who, according to his movement Defenders of the Fatherland, have not been part of the traditional political establishment.

n” “nThe announcement comes after De la Espriella presented the team that will lead the transition with the outgoing government and at a time when the president-elect is advancing in the formation of the cabinet that will accompany him during the beginning of the 2026-2030 term.
