Commander of Sabaneta police station dies after suffering severe burns in fuel depot fire

Santiago Rodríguez.- Colonel Lucilo Francisco Vargas, commander of the Sabaneta police station, died on the afternoon of this Tuesday due to the severe burns suffered during the fire that occurred on the early morning of Monday in the fuel depot of the police station. Vargas had been seriously injured while trying to respond to the emergency that broke out inside the barracks. Despite medical efforts, the high-ranking officer failed to recover from the injuries caused by the flames.

During the incident, Corporal Yefri Aguilera, who was assisting the colonel in the midst of the incident, was also injured. Aguilera remains admitted to a health center in the province, where he is under observation due to the burns and injuries received. Police authorities have not yet offered details on the causes of the fire, while the official report determining the circumstances that gave rise to the fire is awaited.
