Santo Domingo.- The president of the bicameral commission that studied the modifications to the Penal Code, Deputy Wandy Batista, defended the changes incorporated into the bill approved by the Chamber of Deputies and assured that the process allowed for the improvement of the initiative without altering its essence.
Batista stated that during the discussion, proposals presented by various legislators were considered, and that the accepted modifications responded to the need to correct and strengthen technical aspects of the text.
“There is the evidence. A great diversity of legislators proposed modifications. Today, transcendental fundamental issues were not touched, but we corrected and refined,” he expressed.
The legislator highlighted that among the main adjustments is the inclusion of new provisions to sanction real estate fraud, considering it a problem that affects numerous citizens.
“We included two observations regarding the real estate scam. That was an outstanding debt to the nation,” he indicated, explaining that the new sanctions seek to punish those who fraudulently sell the same property to several people and strengthen the country’s legal security.
