Santo Domingo.– The National Council for Children and Adolescents reported this Monday the death of a teenager who was admitted to the Protection System since May 15, 2026. Following the event, as part of the administrative measures such as the preventive suspension of the personnel in charge of security and accompaniment.
Through a statement, the institution explained that the event occurred during the early hours of Sunday and involves other minors, according to preliminary investigations. The adolescents are being subjected to the corresponding investigation process.
“The institution expresses its dismay at this painful situation and respectfully accompanies the feeling of grief generated by the loss of a minor,” the document states.
Likewise, Conani indicated that it notified the case to the competent authorities and that the investigations are in charge of the Public Ministry, the body that must establish the circumstances in which the event occurred.
Measures taken
The entity reported that it ordered the preventive suspension of the personnel in charge of security and accompaniment at the residential center, in addition to the administrative intervention of the place.
As explained, these measures seek to strengthen the processes of care, monitoring, and protection of children and adolescents under institutional care.
Conani also assured that the deceased teenager received specialized attention due to health conditions and situations of high vulnerability previously identified in accordance with comprehensive protection protocols.
The organization added that adolescents with highly complex profiles live together in the residential center, many of them victims of family abandonment, neglect, psychological, sexual and emotional abuse, physical abuse, commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking, and street situation.
“They frequently assume challenging negative behaviors and manifest behavioral disorders that make coexistence among peers difficult,” details the communication sent to the media.
Finally, Conani reiterated that it will act in accordance with the current legal framework, including the provisions of Law 136-03, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the comprehensive care and protection of minors under the system.
