Santo Domingo.- Two teenagers accused of participating in the death of a 14-year-old girl at a shelter of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani) attempted to escape from the center where they are serving a provisional detention measure, reported this Monday the Director General of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC), Roberto Santana.
The official explained that the escape attempt occurred several days ago, but it was thwarted by the facility’s security personnel, who managed to prevent the inmates from leaving.
“Indeed, a few days ago they tried to escape. Measures were taken. Obviously, they were prevented because when the system is not corrupt, everything works as it should“, stated Santana during a radio interview.
He also indicated that the incident was added to the file of the adolescents, who are facing charges for their alleged participation in the death of a minor that occurred on May 24 at a Conani halfway house located in the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra.

The authorities are keeping the investigation open to clarify the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death inside the shelter.
