National Police and Public Ministry investigate death of teenager at CONANI center in Guerra

Santo Domingo.– The National Police reported that, in coordination with the Public Ministry, it is investigating the circumstances in which a 14-year-old Haitian adolescent died in a residential care center of the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI), located in this municipality.

The National Police spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, explained that the incident occurred in one of the pavilions of the aforementioned center, so the authorities immediately initiated investigations together with the specialized jurisdiction for children and adolescents, with the collaboration of CONANI. According to preliminary information, several teenagers who were at the scene are being interviewed by the relevant authorities as part of the evidence gathering process.

Colonel Pesqueira indicated that they are awaiting the results from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), which will be crucial in determining the exact cause of death. Likewise, it was indicated that CONANI activated the protection and comprehensive care protocols established for this type of case, providing psychological support and specialized assistance to the minors under the center’s care. Authorities reiterated that investigations are ongoing and that they will offer more details as the corresponding proceedings progress.
