Councilwoman urges El Cedro District Board for lack of transparency in budget management

El Seibo. – Councilor María Antonia Estévez Trinidad formally warned the accountant of the El Cedro de Miches District Council, Daniel de la Rosa, after denouncing an alleged refusal to provide public documentation related to the budget for the 2025-2026 period. The summons was made through warning act No. 197/2026, executed by an ordinary bailiff of the Judicial District of El Seibo, with the aim of obtaining detailed information on the management of public resources of the municipal district. According to the document, during the recent accountability of the mayor’s office, the execution of approximately RD$49 million of the 2025-2026 budget was reported, although, according to the councilwoman, no specific details or a breakdown on the destination of those funds were offered. The request is based on Law No. 200-04 on Free Access to Public Information and Decree 130-05, regulations that guarantee the right of citizens and elected officials to obtain information related to public administration.

In the summons, provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights related to access to information and government transparency were also cited. Estévez Trinidad assured that the requirement seeks to guarantee clarity in the management of municipal resources and allow citizens to know how the public funds corresponding to the 2025-2026 period were used.
