Court imposes ten-year prison sentence on teacher for sexually abusing 13 students

Santiago.- The Fourth Collegiate Court of Santiago imposed a ten-year prison sentence against a professor prosecuted by the Public Ministry on charges of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and psychological and sexual abuse, as well as violence against women, to the detriment of 13 students. The condemned man was identified as José Antonio Grullón Polanco, arrested in 2022 as a result of the testimonies and evidence from the victims, reported the Public Ministry. The entity filed charges against the teacher based on the protocol implemented by the educational center, after the victims revealed the constant aggressions by him. Eight of the victims, aged between 14 and 17, wrote letters and sent them to the psychology department of their school, in which they recounted the abuse they suffered at the hands of the teacher.

According to the Public Ministry, using his power and hierarchy over the female students, and having control over them, Grullón Polanco “harassed, intimidated, assaulted, and psychologically and sexually abused them”. In addition to the ten years in prison, the Fourth Collegiate Court of Santiago imposed a fine of RD$ 100,000 pesos against the convicted person.
