Santo Domingo. The Second Collegiate Court of the National District rejected this Tuesday the motions for opposition filed by the defense of the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jean Alain Rodríguez, and ordered the immediate continuation of the trial on the merits in the so-called Medusa case.
During the hearing, the court, presided over by Judge Claribel Nivar Arias, declared the motions raised by the former official’s defense, represented by lawyer Carlos Balcácer, to be inadmissible, allowing the judicial process to continue with the examination of the merits of the case.
In a video of the hearing, approximately six minutes long, the moment is observed when the magistrate communicates the court’s decision and unanimously rejects the motions of opposition filed by the defense.

Likewise, during the course of the hearing, the presiding judge responded to one of the points raised by one of the main defendants in the case, indicating that he still had time to continue with his statement before the corresponding decision was issued.

The process is part of the Medusa case, an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office involving former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez and several former officials and private individuals accused of alleged acts of administrative corruption that occurred during his tenure at the head of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic.
With this decision, the court clears the pending procedural incidents and paves the way for the trial on the merits, the stage in which the evidence and arguments of the parties will be presented to determine the criminal liability of the accused.
