Santo Domingo.– The Second Collegiate Court of the National District recessed the hearing of the trial against the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jean Alain Rodríguez, and other defendants, while it deliberates on several motions for reconsideration presented by the defense teams.
The pause was ordered so that the judges could issue their decision on the challenges filed against the rejection of several procedural motions raised during the trial and declared inadmissible by the court.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Wilson Camacho, Director General of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, reported that the magistrates will announce their decision in the session scheduled for this afternoon.
“The court announced that it has a pending decision on the appeals filed by the defense teams against the ruling that rejected all the motions previously raised. Those motions had already been rejected by the judge who presided over the preliminary hearing and also by this court,” explained Camacho.
The Public Prosecutor’s representative indicated that the defense teams appealed that decision through motions of opposition and stated that they hope the court maintains its position to continue with the trial proceedings.

“We hope that the court maintains its decision and that we focus on hearing this process,” he/she maintained.
Camacho also asserted that the main defendant in the case has attempted to delay the progress of the judicial process.
“The main defendant in this case has kept looking for a way to evade the knowledge of the proceedings and the knowledge of the evidence, because he knows that he will be confronted with the evidence that the Public Ministry has as it is presented in court,” he stated.
Regarding the pending appeals, he explained that these are oppositions filed by the defense against the rejection of procedural incidents that had already been heard by the court.
The hearing will continue this afternoon, when the judges must decide whether to maintain the rejection of the motions and whether the trial on the merits can proceed to the next stage.
The process was resumed after, in the previous hearing, the court rejected most of the motions raised by the defense and set this date to continue the case.
