Santo Domingo. -The Community Social and Food Assistance Directorate (
DASAC) and the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC), held a coordination meeting with the purpose of strengthening the joint work in favor of the feeding of people deprived of liberty.
The meeting marks the beginning of an inter-institutional agenda for the year 2026, aimed at optimizing the planning, supervision, and
execution of the food service in the country’s penitentiary centers.
During the meeting, key aspects were addressed to continue strengthening the delivery logistics, quality, transportation, and supervision mechanisms in the assistance that this new institution also offers in a dignified manner to the prison population.
The director of DASAC, Edgar Augusto Félix Arbona, reiterated that food assistance to people deprived of their liberty is an institutional priority, in compliance with the guidelines of President Luis Abinader Corona and the government’s food security policy.
He highlighted that this coordination will allow for the optimization of resources, the raising of quality standards, and the assurance of a dignified, timely, and efficient service throughout the national penitentiary system.
From his side, Roberto Santana Sánchez,
maintained that this meeting comes to continue strengthening the penitentiary system by guaranteeing adequate and quality food, as part of the State’s commitment to human dignity and continuous improvements in the penitentiary system.
Representatives from both entities also participated in the meeting, including Executive Deputy Director Luz Estrella; the Deputy Director and liaison on penitentiary matters, José Perdomo, and the Deputy Director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services, Julio García, among others.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to maintain permanent coordination to ensure sustainable improvements for those deprived of their liberty throughout the national territory.
