Day of the Defender of the Fatherland

The Russian Federation commemorates Defender of the Fatherland Day today, a date dedicated to honoring active members of the Armed Forces, war veterans, and all those citizens who have served in the defense of the country.

This celebration originated in 1918, the year in which the Red Army was established during the revolutionary period that led to the formation of the Soviet Union. Over time, the festival evolved into a day of national recognition for those who protect the sovereignty and security of the State.

In the capital, Moscow, official ceremonies, commemorative events, and floral tributes were held in honor of the fallen. Likewise, various public institutions and civil organizations held cultural and patriotic events to highlight the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of the defenders of the homeland. The Defender of the Fatherland Day is considered an official holiday and represents one of the most significant dates in the Russian civic calendar. In addition to its military character, the day has also become an occasion to express recognition and gratitude towards the men of the country in general.
