Authorities claim that the attackers fired without a word against the victims during the encounter. The police deployment caused alarm among residents of Hato del Yaque, who reported multiple detonations and a large movement of DICRIM units in the area. “We don’t know what happened, but they said they killed one there and took him away in a bus,” declared community member Confesor Ogando Pérez, a resident of the municipal district. So far, the National Police has not offered official details about the circumstances in which Díaz’s death occurred, nor has it confirmed whether a shootout took place during the intervention. The death of Carlos Alberto Díaz occurs while authorities deepen investigations into the double murder that shook Santiago and that would be linked to criminal activities related to firearms.
