Santo Domingo.- Political leader and former Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Domínguez Brito, defended his actions in the case related to Santiago Matías and denied that the decision to lift a judicial record against him was in response to a political favor.
During an interview on the program Una Nueva Mañana, Domínguez Brito explained that Matías was at that time a young man from Capotillo and that, when the judicial process took place, he did not yet have the public notoriety he currently possesses.
The former attorney general stated that he worked for years with young people from Capotillo and other vulnerable areas, where, according to a study conducted at the time, nearly 90% of the youth in the sector had been detained at least once during police operations.
Domínguez Brito described this situation as a form of “stigmatization of poverty” and maintained that many of those arrests ended with the release of the young people after the payment of small amounts of money.

Regarding Matías’ case, he explained that there was a ruling ordering the authorities to remove the corresponding file, so he asserted that he simply complied with a judicial decision.
“I assume with great responsibility that I complied with a sentence and that I did the right thing”, he stated.
Domínguez Brito also acknowledged that he subsequently developed a friendship with Santiago Matías, but clarified that he assumes full responsibility for each of the actions he took during his administration.

Likewise, he wished the communicator and businessman success, while expressing that he hopes he can have the discernment to distinguish between correct actions and those that should not be carried out.
The politician denied once again that the lifting of the record constituted a political benefit, pointing out that when the case occurred, Santiago Matías did not hold the public position he currently maintains.
