Santo Domingo.– Member of the Political Committee of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Francisco Domínguez Brito, stated that those who aspire to hold elected office must present their ideas directly to the citizenry and participate in public debates, considering that politics cannot be reduced to prepared messages or content designed exclusively for social media.
The PLD leader maintained that democracy requires candidates to answer questions, explain their proposals, and allow the public to know firsthand their ability to govern, rather than limiting their communication to pre-prepared pieces.
Domínguez Brito offered these statements during an interview on the program El Avance Radio, which is broadcast from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 to 9:00 in the morning, on the 100.1 FM station, hosted by journalists Carlos Del Pozo, Yulissa Reyes, Martín Severino, Patricia Dipré, and Víctor Herazme.
“The politician has to come here; whoever is going to run for senator has to come here, has to submit to an interview. People have to understand what they think; that is fundamental in the liberal democracy that we know,” he expressed.
The former Attorney General of the Republic stated that a candidate cannot expect to convince citizens solely through posts created for digital platforms, as political leadership must be demonstrated in front of the public and not just through content produced for social media.
“I cannot just come with a chat to give a reading and read it, subject myself to a little Instagram video, and have people believe that you have clear and precise proposals or that you understand them,” he stated.
Likewise, he pointed out that political proposals should not respond solely to marketing strategies focused on following trends or generating greater reach on digital platforms.
“You cannot be a marketer who is going to say: ‘say this because that is what people want to hear’, after conducting a study on what topics are trending on social media,” he stated.
Domínguez Brito explained that this has been a consistent position throughout his political career and recalled that he has always advocated for holding debates between those aspiring to elective offices, considering that this exercise strengthens democracy and allows citizens to evaluate the preparation of each candidate.
“That is what the debate is for. I have always defended it because I believe in it,” he pointed out.
During the interview, he also confirmed that he maintains his aspirations to obtain the presidential candidacy of the Dominican Liberation Party for the 2028 elections, asserting that he feels prepared to assume that responsibility.
“I aspire to be a candidate for the Dominican Liberation Party; I aspire to be president of the Republic because I feel trained, prepared, and with the necessary maturity to do so,” he expressed.
Regarding the internal consultation announced by the PLD, he clarified that he has not filed any appeal to prevent its realization and explained that his observations arose during the consultation process opened by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) regarding the regulations for the pre-campaign period.

“I have not filed an appeal against anything; I simply wanted this to be clear because we, in the party, have to do things correctly,” he indicated.
The leader also reported that he requested a meeting of the Political Committee together with the presidential aspirants to analyze the internal process and address the concerns raised regarding the development of the organization ahead of the next electoral cycle.
