The Dominican Republic received today in Rome the Zero Hunger declaration from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). With this declaration, the country is removed from the organization’s poverty map.
This important declaration, made official this Tuesday, represents a milestone for the country in terms of food.
The “Zero Hunger” declaration had been a priority goal for the country and reaffirms its regional leadership and its firm commitment to continue implementing public policies aimed at guaranteeing food and nutritional security for the entire population, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
According to FAO indices, undernourishment in the Dominican Republic decreased from 8.7% in 2019 to 3.6% in 2025, reflecting the impact of public policies implemented by the Dominican Government to strengthen national production, ensure supply stability, and expand access to nutritious and sufficient food.
