Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Republic will be the country from which the main decisions on digital government in Latin America and the Caribbean will be articulated during 2026, upon assuming the presidency of the Inter-American Digital Government Network (Red GEALC) and, simultaneously, being chosen as the venue for its Ministerial Meeting, the highest-level political meeting of the Network.
Edgar Bastista, director general of the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (
OGTIC), stated: “This designation recognizes the path that the Dominican Republic has been taking in terms of the digital transformation of the State and commits us to continue promoting a regional agenda based on cooperation, innovation and the responsible use of technology.”
This dual responsibility positions the country as a key player in leading the
regional agenda for State modernization, while also making it the host of the ministerial meeting that will bring together,
between September and October 2026, ministers and high authorities responsible for the digital policies of the member countries.
As the host country, the Dominican Republic will be responsible for articulating the main spaces for dialogue and regional cooperation on issues such as the *digitalization of public services*, *interoperability*, *cybersecurity* and the responsible use of *artificial intelligence*, priority areas in the digital government agenda of the region.
The
OGTIC, as the body responsible for implementing digital government policies, is
responsible for coordinating these efforts, within the framework of the initiatives promoted by the Dominican Government to strengthen the efficiency, transparency, and quality of public services.
In addition to organizing the ministerial meeting, the presidency of the GEALC Network will allow the country to actively influence the definition of the regional agenda, promoting the exchange of good practices, technical cooperation, and the construction of common solutions to shared challenges.
This election represents an opportunity to project the Dominican Republic as a
regional benchmark in digital transformation, while strengthening its institutional capacities through joint work with other governments and international organizations.
With this role, the country reaffirms its commitment to strengthening digital government in Latin America and the Caribbean, and to the strategic use of technology as a tool for development and improving the quality of life of citizens.
