The Hague, Netherlands. -The Dominican Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands gave a new boost to their economic, commercial, and institutional relations with the celebration of the business forum Dominican Republic and the Netherlands: Logistic Connectivity, Blue Economy, and Innovation, held this Thursday at the Hilton The Hague Hotel, within the framework of the first Dominican Week in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The activity is part of an agenda that extends until June 5th and seeks to strengthen ties between both countries through initiatives focused on economic diplomacy, investment, trade, innovation, and cultural exchange.
The day continued the activities carried out by the Embassy of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, led by Ambassador Carlos de la Mota, who the previous night hosted the Dominican delegation at a welcome cocktail that brought together authorities, business leaders, and representatives from various sectors linked to the commercial and diplomatic mission.

As part of the official agenda, a delegation composed of public officials, business leaders, agricultural exporters, and logistics operators visited the Port of Rotterdam, considered one of the world’s main logistics hubs. During the tour, they held meetings with port terminal executives to learn about experiences related to logistics, maritime connectivity, cold chain, and sustainable port development, areas of great interest for strengthening Dominican competitiveness.
Economic cooperation and new investment opportunities
In offering the opening remarks of the forum, Ambassador Carlos de la Mota highlighted that Dominican Week represents a milestone in bilateral relations and reflects the growing dynamism of cooperation between both nations.

“This Business Forum is much more than a series of presentations. It is a platform to build trust, exchange ideas, and identify concrete opportunities for cooperation. It is a space where the Dominican Republic and the Netherlands can envision projects that contribute to sustainable growth, innovation, and shared prosperity,” he expressed.
The diplomat also underscored the commitment of the Dominican Government, led by President Luis Abinader, to continue strengthening strategic alliances with European partners and to turn the identified opportunities into concrete projects with economic and social impact.
The activity featured the participation of the Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy, Francisco Caraballo; the Executive Director of the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), Andrés Lugo Risk; the Export Director of ProDominicana, Segismundo Morey; as well as representatives from the business, financial, and government sectors of both countries.
During the meeting, topics related to the Dominican export potential, investment incentives, logistical connectivity with Europe, the blue economy, technological innovation, energy transition, and financing for sustainable projects were addressed.
Innovation, sustainability and blue economy
One of the central themes of the forum was dedicated to the blue economy, considered strategic for the Dominican Republic due to its island status and the potential of its marine resources to drive new growth opportunities. In this context, Dutch experts shared experiences in coastal management, marine renewable energy, and sustainable tourism infrastructure.

Likewise, international specialists presented innovative solutions to address the sargassum challenge through its processing, valorization, and industrial use, transforming an environmental challenge into an opportunity for economic development.
The agenda also included presentations on technologies oriented towards the sustainability of the tourism sector, including the Ocean Water Assisted Cooling (OWAC) system, a tool that allows for a significant reduction in energy consumption in hotels and large buildings through the efficient use of ocean water.
Another topic addressed was financing for impact projects, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and financial mechanisms that allow for the transformation of innovative ideas into initiatives with economic, social, and environmental benefits.
