The congress, which will be held from August 26 to 28 in a hybrid format, will bring together more than 30 national and international experts to analyze the future of photojournalism, strategic visual communication, and the impact of artificial intelligence on content production.
Punta Cana, D.R. – The Dominican Republic will host the 1st International Congress of Photojournalism and Strategic Visual Communication (FOTOCOM 2026), a meeting that will take place from August 26 to 28, 2026, in a hybrid format and will bring together more than 30 national and international experts to discuss the challenges, trends, and innovations that are redefining visual communication in the digital age.
The initiative is organized by the strategic experiences platform EVENTS by JJP, in co-organization with JJP Public Relations, and was created by communication strategist José Joaquín Pérez with the purpose of strengthening professional training, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and boosting the development of photojournalism and strategic visual communication in the Dominican Republic and the region.
FOTOCOM 2026 was officially presented during an event held at the restaurant La Nena Punta Cana, which was attended by media representatives, journalists, communicators, photographers, strategic partners, and special guests.
The presentation was led by the Spanish communicator and actress Carmen Borja, who served as the master of ceremonies, while the musical ambiance of the event was the responsibility of the multifaceted Russian DJ Yuliya Akimenko, who provided a dynamic and elegant atmosphere to the activity.
During the activity, José Joaquín Pérez, founder, creative director, and general producer of FOTOCOM 2026, highlighted that the congress emerges as a response to the accelerated transformation that communication is experiencing and the growing prominence of the image in the way people inform themselves and engage with content.
“Communication has changed, and imagery now leads the way we inform and connect with audiences. FOTOCOM was born to promote higher visual quality in the media, in response to the accelerated growth of visual content consumption and the new challenges posed by digital communication and artificial intelligence,” stated Pérez.

Under the slogan “Journalism is visual, digital, and strategic,” FOTOCOM 2026 seeks to become a space for analysis, professional development, and knowledge exchange regarding the present and future of visual communication.
Representing the international exhibitors, the speaker, author, chef, and founder of the Chef Planning platform, the Spaniard Víctor Rocha López, highlighted the value of FOTOCOM as a space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and collaboration to strengthen visual communication and photojournalism in the region.
“It is an honor to be part of an initiative that is committed to training, innovation, and the exchange of knowledge. FOTOCOM will contribute to the growth of photojournalism and visual communication in our region,” expressed Rocha López.
The academic program will include more than 20 specialized conferences, three discussion panels, roundtables, forums, and networking spaces aimed at strengthening professional training, promoting innovation, and fostering collaboration among journalists, photographers, communicators, academics, content creators, and specialists from different areas linked to visual communication.
The organizers project the participation of more than 300 in-person attendees during the opening day and an audience of over 1,500 virtual participants in the subsequent sessions, consolidating FOTOCOM as a reference space for the analysis and development of strategic visual communication in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Opening of the congress
The hybrid opening day of FOTOCOM 2026 will be held on Wednesday, August 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Dr. Leonel Rodríguez Rib Auditorium of APEC University (UNAPEC), in Santo Domingo. The program will combine in-person participation with virtual streaming to expand the reach of the event.
During this first day, keynote speeches, panel discussions, special recognitions, talks, and networking activities will take place, marking the official start of the congress. The sessions on August 27 and 28 will be held entirely in a virtual format, allowing for the participation of speakers and attendees from different countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
