Drake Accused of Using a Betting Platform to Inflate His Streams

Washington.- Canadian rapper Drake was included in a lawsuit in the United States for allegedly belonging to a criminal organization that would have used an online betting site to increase the number of plays of his musical content on different digital platforms. The accusation was presented before a Virginia district court by two residents, who claim that the singer, along with other alleged conspirators, deployed a network of automated bots and streaming farms to inflate the play counts of his music on Spotify and other platforms. Along with Drake, influencer Adin Ross and a third alleged accomplice identified as George Nguyen were also accused, all indicted for fraud under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

The lawsuit, which also names the gambling platform Stake.us and its parent company, Sweepstakes Limited, as defendants, was filed while Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham, prepares to release a new album titled ‘Iceman’. According to the court text, the alleged scheme would allow for the generation of illicit income and undue commercial advantages through the manipulation of recommendation algorithms. So far, neither the artist nor the other defendants have publicly responded to the charges, and the court has not set a date for the first hearing of the case.
