The “I Want It That Way” superfan thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to join as an extra member of the Backstreet Boys on Friday night (October 23), participating unabashedly in the vocals for this 1999 single, one of BSB’s five big hits. The song reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that year and was ubiquitous on Top 40 radio and MTV’s TRL program. Drake was 13 years old in 1999.

Howie Dorough, of the Backstreet Boys, included a snippet of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” in the musical bridge. In addition to Howie, his bandmates Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, AJ McClean, and Kevin Richardson also attended the surprise birthday party. The celebration reportedly took place at the exclusive private club Casa Cipriani in New York.

Drake concluded the ballad, performing the vocal outro. Watch him sing one of his favorite songs in a video shared on X.

“Tonight is not about a tour, an album release, or a bunch of videos we shot,” Drake told party guests on Saturday night. “It’s about being alive, about staying alive.”
