EDE says they have invested RD$1.488 billion to improve the quality of electricity service

As part of an aggressive plan aimed at strengthening infrastructure, the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED) highlighted that 67 electrical substations of Edesur, Edenorte and Edeeste have been intervened, with an investment of RD$1.488 billion, which has impacted 1,625,803 customers, improving the quality of service and stability in the distribution networks.

The CUED, chaired by Celso Marranzini, highlights the positive balance recorded in 2025, with the collection of RD$126,574 million, marking a historical record in electricity distribution companies.

The work includes the installation of eleven new power transformers, the rehabilitation of 978 kilometers of medium and low voltage networks, with an investment of RD$999 million, benefiting 616,848 customers of the distributors.

With an emphasis on raising the quality of service, it specifies that the EDUs installed 566,879 meters, reflecting a notable improvement in service for the same number of customers, with an investment of RD$4,258 million.

The CUED points out that the work of the distribution companies includes the contracting of 357,888 clients and the carrying out of 882,741 supply adjustments, inspections, standardizations and correction of irregularities.

Also, the execution of 92,642 disconnections due to detected irregularities (frauds) and 1,004 clients detected with electricity theft practices as a result of interventions carried out in coordination with the Deputy Attorney General for the Electric System (PGASE).

Likewise, the implementation of a modern control system in communities that receive energy in a prepaid modality took place, benefiting more than 235,000 clients.

For future plans, in order to guarantee the continuity of the electric energy service with quality and reduce both technical and non-technical losses (due to theft), the CUED indicates that the EDEs have in their portfolio the construction of 22 new electrical substations and 52 repowerings at a cost of US$275 million multi-year until 2028.

Furthermore, the program includes the acquisition of 13 new power transformers, and the development of an energy efficiency project, which covers public lighting, with the acquisition of 250,000 luminaires and a remote management system.

During the year 2025, CUED highlights that efforts were focused on ensuring the satisfaction of the demand for electrical energy, improving operational management, strengthening internal processes, and optimizing the use of financial resources, in line with institutional strategic objectives and the priorities of the national electricity sector.
