Santiago.– The president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the municipality of Santiago, Andrés Cueto, stated this Thursday that the government of President Luis Abinader has allocated around RD$170 billion to completed and ongoing works in the province between 2020 and 2026, a figure that, according to him, has boosted the economic and social development of the region.
Cueto maintained that, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, international conflicts, and variations in global trade, the central administration has maintained an extensive investment program in strategic areas such as electric power, drinking water and sanitation, road infrastructure, education, health, sports, recreation, security, defense, transportation, and housing.
He indicated that within that plan, more than 4,000 homes have been delivered, while another 2,000 are in the process of construction, as part of the actions aimed at reducing the housing deficit in the province.
“These results demonstrate that when there is a responsible, transparent administration committed to the people, public resources are translated into works that transform communities, boost the economy, and generate opportunities for everyone,” the political leader expressed.
The PRM municipal president also highlighted economic indicators that, according to him, support the government’s administration. He pointed out that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) confirmed that the Dominican Republic reached the Zero Hunger goal by reducing the prevalence of undernourishment from 6% in 2019 to less than 2.5%.

Likewise, he stated that the Dominican economy recorded a growth of 4.5% during the first semester of 2026, driven by the mining, construction, tourism, and free trade zone sectors.

Regarding investment, Cueto highlighted that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached US$3,276.5 million in the first half of this year, which represents an increase of 7.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
During a press conference held at the Association for Development, Inc. (APEDI), the leader assured that more than 200 works are being executed or have been completed in Santiago, which, in his view, reflect the Government’s commitment to the sustainable development of the province and to strengthening its contribution to national economic growth.
