Santander de Quilichao, Cauca.– A strong explosion destroyed part of the Cachimbal toll booth infrastructure during the early hours of this Saturday, in the township of Mondomo, on the Pan-American Highway that connects Cali with Popayán.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., when several men allegedly arrived at the site where the toll station was being built and placed explosives that were subsequently detonated.
The structure was in the final phase of construction and was under the charge of the concessionaire Nuevo Cauca.
The attack generated concern among the area’s residents and affected infrastructure located on one of the main road corridors of the Cauca department.
Preliminarily, authorities are investigating whether the incident could be related to FARC dissident groups operating in this region.
