Santo Domingo East.– A fire reported this Saturday morning at the Cancino Adentro landfill has residents of the area on alert, due to the large amount of smoke that has spread through different sectors of the municipality.
So far, no people affected by the fire have been reported, while several units of the Santo Domingo Este Fire Department remain at the scene to control the flames and prevent them from reaching other areas.
The smoke, visible from different points, has generated concern among residents and reduced visibility in the surroundings of the landfill.
Preliminarily, the version being handled is that the fire may have been intentionally caused by individuals who have not yet been identified. The circumstances that caused the incident will be determined through an investigation.

The firefighters’ work has been complicated by the type of material accumulated in the landfill. The decomposition of waste produces gases that can promote combustion and hinder efforts to completely extinguish the fire.
