Santiago.- A fire reduced to ashes the second floor of a house located on First Street in the Monterrico sector, in the municipal district of Santiago Oeste, on the night of this Monday, leaving three people with mental health problems in the open and causing heavy material losses.
According to versions from one of those affected, the fire would have originated while they were trying to prepare food, although the Fire Department indicated that the preliminary cause points to a possible short circuit.
The flames generated great panic in the neighborhood, as at one point they threatened to spread to an adjacent house.
To extinguish the fire, the firefighters broke doors and windows of the affected house, also verifying if more family members remained inside.
The fire left no human victims, but did cause significant damage to the structure of the house and belongings of the residents, who now face the difficult situation of having nowhere to take shelter.

Authorities are investigating the case to precisely establish the causes of the accident, while the community of Monterrico demands support for those affected, who lost everything in the fire.
