The National Assembly French adopted this Thursday two laws with high symbolic content, as they allow the rehabilitation of homosexuals convicted between 1942 and 1982 and women who were convicted for having abortions before the interruption of pregnancy was legalized in 1975. Both laws were approved unanimously in the lower house, which in recent times has been characterized by a strong political division. However, the one related to homosexuals will still have to be the subject of a final procedure and agreed with the Senate, with whom a difference persists regarding the years to be taken into account and the amount of compensation to which those affected are entitled.

The deputies included the years of the Vichy regime, considering that from the liberation the same law imposed by the pro-Nazi regime was assumed, which considered the minimum age for homosexual relations to be 21 years old, compared to 15 years old. In addition, the senators set the compensation at just under 10,000 euros and 150 for each day of detention adopted in the National Assembly. The age of consent generated about 10,000 convictions, while the crime of outrage to public order, which was more severely punished when committed by people of the same sex, affected about 40,000 homosexuals. Regarding abortion offenses, the adopted law does not provide any compensation for those affected, more than 11,600 women, according to official estimates. The text acknowledges that for years France promoted laws that penalized abortion, which led to the death of many women when they tried to have it done clandestinely, while others suffered health problems or were condemned. The law was adopted after France introduced the right to abortion in its Constitution and when the law decriminalizing it turns 50 years old. Although many feminist associations consider that this right is not yet fully exercised in the country where one in five women go abroad to have an abortion.
