The Dominican Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines, advanced this Wednesday in the revision of the reform of Mining Law 146-71, by announcing that an updated draft is practically ready that incorporates the observations made in previous meetings, with a view to submitting a definitive text in the next legislature.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, during his participation in the seventh session of the Mining Committee of Meta RD 2036, where he explained that the socialization process with the actors in the sector will allow the content of the project to be perfected, through an agenda of continuous meetings, starting next week, aimed at achieving a proposal aligned with the national development priorities.
Santos underscored the need to reinforce the environmental components of the legislation, strengthen the permitting processes, guarantee greater involvement and regulation of investments that are developed in mining communities, as well as establish a clear, modern, and well-structured tax treatment for the sector.
The session was led by Peter Prazmowski, director of the National Competitiveness Council (CNC) and served as a space to analyze the current needs of national mining, as well as short, medium, and long-term actions aimed at promoting sustainable, competitive, and socially responsible growth of mining activity in the Dominican Republic.
In that context, the coordinator of the Mining Committee, Pedro Esteva, presented the results and agreements of the recent progress meeting of the sectoral committees, headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Vice President Raquel Peña, held on January 16th.

In addition, the identified requirements and the next steps for the simplification of administrative processes in the sector were addressed, as part of the efforts to improve the investment climate and strengthen mining institutionalism.
The conference is part of the strategic follow-up to the commitments made within the national agenda Meta RD 2036, created by decree 337-24, which aims to double the country’s real gross domestic product (GDP) by 2036.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice Minister of Soils and Waters of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Davis Aracena; the president of the Dominican Association of Foreign Investment Companies, Alejandro Peña Prieto; the director of the Mining and Petroleum Chamber of the Dominican Republic, Martín Valerio, and the general director of Mining, Rolando Muñoz.
