The Dominican Government announced the celebration of the first Meta RD 2036 Forum, a meeting that will bring together on August 5th, at the Convention Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, international organizations, and national and international experts to discuss actions to accelerate the country’s productive transformation and development.
The forum will be held within the framework of the national strategy Meta RD 2036, created through Decree 337-24, which aims to identify and promote the necessary reforms and actions to double the real size of the Dominican economy by the year 2036 and advance towards the transformation of the country into a fully developed nation.
The strategy proposes as a benchmark raising the per capita income from approximately US$11,000 in 2024 to more than US$22,000 in 2036, through sustained economic growth of around 6% annually. Associated objectives include the creation of 1.7 million new jobs, the elimination of extreme poverty, and the strengthening of productivity, innovation, human capital, and the quality of institutions.
The Meta RD 2036 Forum constitutes a new phase of the work process initiated with the formation of the Presidential Commission and the creation of public-private sectoral committees. These committees are responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and promoting transformational actions in strategic sectors of the Dominican economy.
Since March 2025, the Government has been coordinating these committees with representatives from the public sector, the private sector, and industry experts. In March 2026, President Luis Abinader, Vice President Raquel Peña, and representatives of the productive sector reviewed the progress of this agenda at the Council of Ministers, with an emphasis on areas such as human capital development, tourism, construction, free trade zones, logistics, and agriculture.

Among the advances presented are the expansion of technical high schools and scholarship programs in STEM areas; the alignment of technical-vocational training with the needs of tourism; improvements in permitting processes for the construction sector; the strengthening of the international promotion of the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for free trade zones; progress in the logistics and re-export agenda; and programs to increase the productivity and export capacity of the agricultural sector.
The forum will allow for expanding the discussion on structural reforms and public policies necessary to increase productivity and overcome the obstacles that limit long-term growth. The Meta RD 2036 roadmap is based on four central areas: productivity, innovation, strengthening human capital, and consolidating a more efficient State.
In accordance with the vision presented by President Luis Abinader, doubling the size of the economy does not constitute an exclusively macroeconomic objective, but rather a goal linked to concrete results for the population: more formal jobs, better wages, poverty reduction, strengthening of the middle class, and higher quality public services.

The celebration of the first Meta RD 2036 Forum takes place at a time when the strategy has moved from the formulation and socialization stage to a phase of execution and monitoring of sectoral actions. The meeting on August 5th will seek to connect knowledge, experiences, and proposals around the sectors and reforms that will be decisive for the growth of the Dominican Republic over the next decade.
