Government declares national mourning for the death of Ramón Alburquerque Ramírez

Santo Domingo.– The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, declared official mourning for Sunday February 1, 2026, on the occasion of the death of engineer and political leader Ramón Alburquerque Ramírez, through Decree No. 62-26, issued this Friday.

The provision recognizes the public and political career of Alburquerque Ramírez, who died at the age of 76 years. Born on June 5, 1949 in the province of Monte Plata, he developed an extensive career in the service of the Dominican State from different legislative, administrative and partisan spaces Decree 62-26. The decree highlights his performance as a senator of the Republic for Monte Plata for four consecutive terms and his management as president of the Senate on three occasions, from where he participated in the approval of national high-impact legislations, linked to the protection of the environment, natural resources, the hydrocarbons sector, social security and the electric reform Decree 62-26.

Likewise, the Executive Branch highlighted his time in Public Administration, where he held positions such as Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, President of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery, President of the National Energy Commission and President of the National Forestry Technical Commission (CONATEF), contributing to the formulation of public policies in strategic areas for the country Decree 62-26. In the political-party sphere, Alburquerque Ramírez was president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and subsequently founding leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), maintaining an active participation in the national democratic debate Decree 62-26. As part of the official provisions, the decree orders the Ministry of Defense to render the corresponding military honors, as well as that the National Flag fly at half-mast in military facilities and public buildings of the country during the day of mourning declared Decree 62-26.
