Santo Domingo.— The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the UASD, Dr. Gerardo Roa, expressed his deepest sorrow for the death of engineer Ramón Alburquerque, highlighting that his passing mourns not only his family and friends, but also the intellectual, political and academic life of the Dominican Republic.
“With the death of
Ramón Alburquerque the country loses one of its best intellectual assets,” stated Dean Roa, highlighting a public career characterized by technical rigor, ethical solvency, and a strategic vision of national development. Alburquerque served as Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, President of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery, President of the National Energy Commission, and President of the National Forestry Technical Commission (CONATEF), from where he promoted policies aimed at strengthening institutions and the responsible use of the country’s strategic resources.
Likewise, his mark was decisive in the legislative field, serving as a senator of the Republic for the province of Monte Plata and president of the Senate in three periods, a stage in which he contributed significantly to the democratic debate, the modernization of parliamentary work and the defense of the national interest.
In this way, the dean emphasized that the figure of Ramón Alburquerque transcends the sum of positions held, as it embodies a vocation for public service based on critical thinking, plural dialogue and historical responsibility. Consequently, his absence represents an irreparable loss for democratic institutions and for the political culture of the country.
Consequently, Dean Gerardo Roa extended, on behalf of the academic community, his most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of engineer Ramón Alburquerque, while urging them to honor his memory by preserving the values of integrity, civic commitment, and intellectual excellence that guided his public life.
Finally, he expressed wishes of peace and solace for his loved ones, with the conviction that the legacy of Ramón Alburquerque will remain as an ethical and intellectual reference for present and future generations.
