In a joint operation between the General Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigation and INTERPOL Guatemala, security agents arrested in the village of Shinshin, municipality of Gualán, Zacapa, Isaac Antonio Solís Figueroa, a citizen with dual Venezuelan and Spanish nationality, who is wanted by the justice system of Spain on charges of homicide. The arrest was made following an arrest warrant for extradition purposes issued on May 19, 2026. According to official information, Solís Figueroa is identified as the alleged responsible for the death of a man who was his friend in the Forestal Prado Ovejero park, in Spanish territory. The case dates back to August 18, 2025, the date on which the victim was reported missing and whose body was located five days later. The Spanish authorities accuse the detainee under article 138 of the Criminal Code, which typifies the crime of homicide.
According to reports, after the crime, the suspect allegedly used the victim’s mobile phone to communicate with the deceased’s mother, pretending to be him and claiming he was working in Valencia.
The police forces placed Solís Figueroa at the disposal of the judicial authorities to comply with the extradition process requested by Spain. Investigations continue to clarify all the circumstances of the case and collaborate with the Spanish justice in the transfer of the detainee.
Isaac Solís Figueroa, with dual Venezuelan and Spanish nationality, faces homicide charges following the death of his friend in Spain in August 2025. The extraditions from Guatemala are concentrated in cases of drug trafficking, trafficking and organized crime destined for United States, in addition to processes for common crimes towards neighboring countries, according to the text released on these cases. In May 2026, authorities handed over to the United States a man linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and others accused of conspiring to manufacture and distribute cocaine, according to the same report. Solís Figueroa was captured in the village of Shinshin, Zacapa, and placed at the disposal of the court for the extradition process requested by Spain. The text also indicates that in October 2025 the extradition from Guatemala to the United States of a member of a network dedicated to the illicit trafficking of people, linked to the fatal accident of 2021 in Chiapas, Mexico, was confirmed. Among the aforementioned background are the convictions of the Lorenzana Lima clan (in 2016 and 2020) and the case of Mendoza Matta, who, according to the document, operated from the east of the country.
