Santo Domingo.– The Dominican political leader Guido Gómez Mazara will head the Electoral Observation Mission of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL), which will accompany the presidential elections in Colombia scheduled for next 31 of May. The designation was made by the president of COPPPAL, Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, who highlighted Gómez Mazara’s career, his experience in democratic processes in the region, and his commitment to institutionalism.

According to the official communication, the participation of the Dominican leader seeks to guarantee a technical, impartial, and objective observation, in accordance with international standards and with respect for the sovereignty of the Colombian people.

The pre-election day agenda includes meetings with presidential candidates, representatives of political organizations, and authorities from the National Electoral Council of Colombia. Gómez Mazara, current president of the Board of Directors of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications, is a leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party and was a pre-presidential candidate of that organization for the 2024 elections. The international mission will accompany an electoral process considered important for the democratic strengthening in Latin America and the Caribbean.
