SANTO DOMINGO.- Director, novelist, and playwright Haffe Serulle stated that the untimely passing of Stuart Ortiz leaves a very deep void in Dominican theater.
“It is the loss of an exceptional actor, out of the ordinary, out of the normal. An extraordinary actor”, expressed Serulle before the cameras of De Último Minuto during the artist’s wake at the Savica funeral home.
“I always said that there were not two or three actors in the world of the quality and caliber of Stuart Ortiz. Dominican theater loses that value, the country loses that value; because, even if the nation is indifferent to this type of virtue, these are contributions that remain beyond what people may or may not want. They are essential values for measuring history and for making the history of Dominican art,” he added.

Dominican actor Stuart Ortiz passed away on Wednesday afternoon after drowning in the so-called “Cueva Escondida” (Hidden Cave), a cenote where cave diving is practiced, located in the Agua Loca sector, Santo Domingo Este municipality.
Serulle believes that all young Dominicans who dedicate themselves to theater, and those who are preparing to do so, should study the life of Stuart Ortiz and “the legacy he leaves us all in artistic terms.”
