Santo Domingo.– Representative unions of administrative and support workers in the health sector demanded an urgent salary increase from the Government this Thursday for thousands of public servants who, they reported, earn only RD$10,000 per month. Likewise, they requested that President Luis Abinader receive them in an audience to explain the situation, which they describe as a “salary injustice.”
During a press conference held at the headquarters of the Autonomous Class Union Confederation (CASC), the National Federation of Health and Allied Workers (FENATRASAL) maintained that there are no reasons for this segment to continue being excluded from the salary increases granted to other sectors of the health system.
Union representatives stated that current wages are insufficient to cover the cost of the basic food basket, transportation, medicine, and other essential services, which is why they insisted on the need for an immediate improvement in the economic conditions of these workers.
“Those who sustain a large part of the operation of our hospitals cannot continue to be treated as second-class workers. It is impossible to live on RD$10,000 a month when the cost of the basic food basket, transportation, medicines, and essential services is constantly increasing,” the leaders expressed during the meeting with the press.

The unions pointed out that the country maintains a historical debt to the administrative and support staff of health centers, composed of office employees, janitors, drivers, orderlies, laundry, cleaning, security, maintenance, and gatekeeping workers, who perform essential functions to guarantee the daily operation of hospitals.
Finally, they called on the Government to address their demands and open a space for dialogue with the goal of finding a solution that dignifies the working and salary conditions of thousands of workers in the public health system.
