Santo Domingo.– The Fourth Chamber of the Criminal Court of the Court of First Instance of the National District suspended this Friday the hearing related to Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez, a witness in the Coral 5G case, because he was not transported to the court for the proceedings.
The hearing was scheduled for 11:00 in the morning at the judicial headquarters located at the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice. According to information provided from the scene, the process was rescheduled for next August 10th.
The official hearing docket of the Judiciary corresponding to July 31st records the habeas corpus action filed by Girón Jiménez, who appears as the petitioner, while the General Directorate of Prisons and Penitentiary Services, the Judge of Execution of the Sentence of the National District, and the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic appear as the respondents.
The court document states that Girón is under house arrest.
The habeas corpus petition seeks for the court to review the legal status of the former member of the National Police, who was one of the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s main witnesses in the Coral 5G case, a file in which several individuals were investigated for alleged crimes related to administrative corruption and money laundering.
Girón’s defense has argued that their client has served practically the entirety of the imposed sentence and has questioned why he continues to be under restrictions, while other defendants in the same case have obtained judicial benefits.
