Santo Domingo.– The judicial process of the Calamar case was postponed again this Wednesday, after the parties requested the adjournment of the hearing, which was rescheduled for next August 19.
The decision was adopted by the court, which accepted the request and set the new date to continue with the hearing of the case, in which former Minister of Finance Donald Guerrero is listed along with other defendants.
The Calamar case is one of the most significant proceedings for alleged administrative corruption currently before the Dominican courts. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation reveals the existence of an alleged network composed of former officials and private individuals that reportedly diverted billions of pesos from the State through irregular payments linked to land expropriations and other operations.
The defendants face charges including criminal conspiracy, embezzlement, collusion of officials, bribery, money laundering, and alleged illicit financing of political campaigns.

In a previous decision, the Fourth Instruction Court of the National District sent 35 defendants to trial, considering that there is sufficient evidence for them to answer before a court for the acts attributed to them by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In that same resolution, the court issued a no-bill order in favor of the former Minister of Public Works Gonzalo Castillo, the former Administrative Minister of the Presidency José Ramón Peralta, Daniel Guerrero Mena, Marcial Reyes, and Rosa Arias, after concluding that there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations against them.
