Santo Domingo, DR. – National Deputy Ramón Raposo stated that a year ago, during the debates for the approval of the Penal Code in the Chamber of Deputies, he defended the need to eliminate Article 310, regarding the outrage of public officials, as well as to modify other provisions that, in his opinion, affected the freedom of expression of the citizenry.
The legislator from the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) recalled that at that time he presented the proposal before the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, but assured that it was rejected by the congressional majority.
Raposo maintained that, following the approval of the Penal Code, he insisted that a deep review of the articles that were subject to strong questioning by different sectors of society was necessary.

Likewise, he asserted that he was the first deputy to submit a bill aimed at eliminating and modifying the provisions of the Penal Code that, in his view, limited freedom of expression, the right to protest, and citizen empowerment.
