Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Student Welfare, INABIE, pays up to RD$182.90 per food ration for its employees, while the cost paid to suppliers for each school meal ration is between RD$90 and RD$100 pesos.
In 2026, the institution awarded the company Mister Sandwich Comidas y Más, S.R.L. a contract for RD$56.7 million pesos for the provision of lunches to its employees.
The agreement contemplates a total of 310,500 rations over a period of one year, with a unit price of RD$155 pesos without ITBIS, equivalent to RD$182.90 with taxes included.
This contract runs in parallel to the school feeding program, in which the institution itself contracts suppliers for the distribution of food to students in the public system at considerably lower prices.

The case highlights how, within the same institution, food contracting schemes coexist with marked differences in the cost per unit, even in services involving high volumes of rations.
