INDOTEL and 911 sign agreement to implement National Alert System at a cost exceeding US$900,000

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) and the National Emergency and Security Attention System 911 signed an agreement that will allow the implementation of the National Alert System, with an investment of US$929,256.59 in the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art technological equipment. The agreement was signed by the president of the Board of Directors of INDOTEL, Guido Gómez Mazara, and the executive director of 911, Colonel Randolfo Rijo Gómez, ERD, who highlighted the importance of this initiative to strengthen citizen security and ensure that the population receives emergency messages quickly, massively, and geolocated.

“With this agreement, we reaffirm that technology is at the service of the people. Our goal is to ensure that, in any emergency situation, citizens can receive timely alerts that save lives and reduce risks,” said Gómez Mazara.

For his part, Rijo Gómez pointed out that “today is a day of great importance for strengthening security and emergency response in our country. The signing of this agreement marks a firm step towards the consolidation of a modern, agile and effective national alert mechanism”.

The system will operate under Cell Broadcast technology, which allows simultaneous notifications to be sent to mobile phones in specific areas, without depending on the saturation of traditional networks. This will facilitate the issuance of real-time alerts about atmospheric phenomena, health emergencies, security threats, and other critical situations.

The agreement, approved in Session 027-2025 of the INDOTEL Board of Directors held on August 14th of this year, ensures the resources for the purchase, installation, and operation of the equipment. The goal is to guarantee a continuous, secure, and uninterrupted service in the transmission of messages to the citizenry.

With the implementation of the National Alert System, the Dominican Government seeks to reduce the impact of disasters and protect the life, property, and fundamental rights of the population. The next step will be the installation of equipment and the carrying out of technical tests, with a view to its progressive activation throughout the national territory.
