SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) announced this Friday a set of high social and historical impact works in various sectors of the National District, an initiative that will transform school sports and directly benefit the youth of the intervened areas.
The executive director of INEFI, Alberto Rodríguez Mella, offered the details during a supervision tour of several educational centers in the capital.
Among the outstanding projects is the construction of a sports center at the Politécnico Nuestra Señora del Carmen (in the Simón Bolívar sector), as well as interventions at the Héctor J. Díaz Study Center and the San Judas Tadeo School.
Rodríguez Mella stressed that this program responds to the guidelines of President Luis Abinader, whose objective is to roof the sports courts of the most emblematic neighborhoods of Santo Domingo.
“We are paying social debts to historical sectors. We are not looking for applause; we are bringing solutions to communities that for decades fought to be heard,” stated the head of INEFI.

Regarding the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Polytechnic, the official highlighted the center’s track record in values-based education, emphasizing its order and discipline. Likewise, he asked the communities for patience, reminding them that construction processes take time, but that the final results will be worth it.
“When these works are ready, they will not only serve for playing basketball. They will be multipurpose spaces for community development: from graduations and neighborhood association meetings, to family activities,” he explained.

A milestone for the student and club movement
During his visit to the Héctor J. Díaz Center, the director of INEFI described the announcement as a “historic day,” recalling that this environment was the cradle of the Dominican student movement and the struggle for civil liberties in the country.
Echoing the famous phrase of the historic leader José Francisco Peña Gómez, “People First,” Rodríguez Mella emphasized that the current state administration is focused on restoring the prominence of citizens through transparent public investment.
Recognition of community leaders
To conclude, the head of INEFI granted special recognition to the work of sports leader Roberto Ramírez “Macumba,” whom he described as a “warrior” for his tireless dedication to the club movement in Capotillo. Likewise, he praised Ramírez’s organic and simple commitment to the sports development of the community.
