Santo Domingo. – The Central Electoral Board (JCE) continued this Monday with the delivery of the identity and electoral card in the new format to focused sectors of the National Council of Disability (CONADIS), as well as to members of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.
Within the framework of the first stage of progressive, controlled, and limited deployment, the entity began with the capture of data and immediate delivery of the new identity and electoral card to Diego Castillos Yarull, Yahaira Peña Mota, Miguelina de Jesús Susana, Pablo Lemuel Taveras, within the framework of the Accessible ID Card Project for people with disabilities.
Meanwhile, the identity and electoral card was delivered to the members of the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Juan Marichal, the first Dominican to enter the Hall of Fame, Pedro Martínez, Vladimir Guerrero and David Ortiz.
In the day’s delivery of the new identity and electoral card, the president of the JCE, Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, the titular member and coordinator of the Inclusion Table Dolores Altagracia Fernández Sánchez and the titular member Hirayda Marcelle Fernández Guzmán, as well as the institution’s board of directors, participated.
Also present were Benny Metz and Alexis Alcántara, president and executive director of the National Council on Disability (CONADIS), respectively, as well as representatives of the entity.
JCE reaffirms commitment to inclusion
Jáquez Liranzo highlighted that this activity is very satisfying because it fulfills one of the values of the JCE’s Institutional Strategic Plan: inclusion.
He indicated that the JCE, within the framework of the strategies implemented in the Accessible ID Project, is working to ensure that there are no barriers when citizens go to obtain their identity document.
He stated that through the Inclusion Table, coordinated by Dolores Altagracia Fernández, and with the support of CONADIS, they will continue working to ensure that people with disabilities do not encounter those barriers, reiterating the call to citizens to attend the cedulation process by birthday month starting April 12.
For his part, the president of CONADIS, Benny Metz, highlighted that for the entity this day has a great significance because it represents an act of social justice of guarantee of fundamental rights. He stated that the ID card is the gateway to full citizenship, to the exercise of civil and political rights and to inclusion.
Rafael Octavio Castillos thanked the JCE for his son Diego becoming the third person to receive the identity and electoral card, highlighting that, although progress has been made as a country, there is still much work to be done: “Not only for Diego, but for the representation of all the Diegos of the Dominican Republic who are on the autism spectrum.”
