Washington.- Former Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, defeated by Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, said this Friday that she has not yet made “a decision” on whether she will run in the 2028 presidential election.
During an event held in Tennessee, Harris, 61, stated that she is now “fully focused” on the midterm elections on November 3, in which control of Congress will be at stake, currently held by Republicans who support the Trump administration.
The former vice president pointed out that Democrats must achieve in those elections “the highest voter turnout” in history to prevent, she said, the Republican government from being able to “manipulate the elections.”
The names being mentioned for the 2028 elections
It is still early for the 2028 candidacies to be defined, but within the Democratic ranks, names such as Harris herself, California Governor Gavin Newsom, or former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg are being mentioned.
On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are among the top names being mentioned as potential successors to Trump, who cannot run for a third term.

Harris, the first woman to hold the Vice Presidency of the United States, assumed the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024 after then-President Joe Biden withdrew from his reelection campaign, but she was defeated by Trump at the polls.
The former vice president considered running for governor of California, her home state, in the upcoming election this November, but ultimately decided against it.
